BBE 4502W Process and Product Design II (3 credits)

Catalog Description:

Develop, Select, formulate and complete an open-ended, comprehensive engineering process and product design project.

Prerequisites:

3013, BBE 4013, upper division BBE major or instructor’s consent

Grading:

Student Performance Assessment:

Weekly participation and contribution to team design project (individual) 15%; Weekly progress memos (individual) - 10%; design notebook (individual) – 10%; technical merit – 20%; final design report - 20%; final oral presentation – 15%; poster presentation - 10%

Topics

  • Define and develop design project statement and scope
  • Develop a project plan from initiation to completion presenting milestones and deliverables
  • Complete any required technical/trade literature review
  • Selection of a preferred alternative based on economic, engineering, safety, environmental, marketing and business considerations – demonstrate how the design concept was chosen
  • Design a general prototype model, research program or simulation appropriate to the preferred alternative
  • Maintain a daily activity design notebook
  • Weekly meetings with the Faculty advisor reviewing the progress and discuss ideas, suggestions and issues
  • Written report of the final design will be submitted before the completion of the semester
  • Oral presentation and poster presentation of the final design will be given to the departmental and/or engineering professional audience before the completion of the semester
