BBE 4411 Application and Performance of Wood-based Composites in Service (2 credits)

Intended for forest products marketing/manufacturing professionals, architects, commercial/residential design engineers. Physical/mechanical properties of composites. Composite applications/installations.

Course Objective

  1. To develop an understanding of the physical and mechanical properties of wood-based composites.
  2. To demonstrate wood-based manufacturing technology and to show
    how these processes affect material properties.
  3. To develop an understanding of proper composite applications and
    installations.
  4. To show where composite products are used in residential and light
    industrial construction and to show proper delivery, storage and installation principles.

Organization of the Course

The class will be organized with a variety of lecture, group problems, and laboratory work. Students will use testing equipment and participate in the making of some test panels. During lecture, questions and class participation is stressed.
