BBE 1003 Wood and Fiber Science Lab (1credits)

Catalog Description:

Familiarize students with the structure and properties of wood and agricultural plants, and the structure and properties of the fibers derived from these raw materials.

Prerequisites:

(recommend concurrent enrollment in BBE 1002)

  • Macroscopic characteristics and appearance of softwood and hardwood species.
  • Macroscopic characteristics and appearance of agricultural plant species.
  • Microstructure of sections of radial, tangential and cross sections of softwood, hardwood and agricultural plant species.
  • Fiber identification and analysis of softwoods, hardwoods and agricultural plant species.
  • Processing considerations in the manufacture of bio-based composite materials.
