Planer/Moulder Short Course
This course is not currently scheduled.
A three-day hands-on course providing practical training
to planer and moulder operators. Includes machine alignment
and trouble shooting. Helps lumber manufacturers produce
more marketable and defect-free lumber
Does your planer or moulder produce rough lumber or snipes?
Does your pattern stock match pattern specifications? Is
lumber fed through the machine correctly? Is your planer
or moulder operating smoothly and efficiently or is it "down" frequently?
Whether new or old, a machine that is properly aligned, maintained
and operated can produce high quality, defect-free stock.
The first day of this course includes the following classroom
presentations:
- Safety
- Wood machining basics
- Planer/moulder designs and functions
- Understanding cutting
angles
- Planer/moulder alignment principles
- Knife grinding and jointing
The remaining two days are spent at a mill for the following
demonstrations and hands-on practice:
- Planer/moulder alignment
proceduresHead set-up procedures
- Grinding and jointing problems
- Bearing specifications and
replacement
- Troubleshooting machining problems
- Adjustments on individual
machines
Goals of the course are to help you gain the information,
skills and confidence which will help improve the quality,
productiveness and profitability of your planer or moulder
