Objective
- Compare the daily ET estimations from several ET
models over 2-3 locations in Central Minnesota.
- Encourage adoption of using daily crop ET information
in an irrigator’s water scheduling program.
Need
or Impact
Irrigation scheduling is an important task
to optimize a crop production system and reduce the risk of
leaching
crop
chemicals
into the groundwater. Access to and knowledge of daily
crop water use (ET) is a critical factor in deciding
when to
irrigate. Project results have encouraged some farmers
to use their
local ET hotline and/or the Wisconsin-Minnesota Daily
Crop ET web
site.
Project Status
Ongoing. Presented data to irrigators around
the state via IAM newsletter and presentations at their annual
meetings in Hubbard,
Becker, and Hastings.
