Objectives
Determine the odor emission factors of selected animal
buildings that are participating in the National Air Emission
Monitoring
Study (NAEMS) for use in air dispersion and evaluation of
control technologies. Develop a comprehensive chemical library
that
delineates the most significant odorants and correlates this
with olfactometry results. Also disseminate this information
to researchers, the regulation community, and other stakeholders.
Need
or Impact
There is a great need for correlating the olfactometry
responses and chemical odorants to provide a more objective
measure of
the odor impacts on communities and other individuals near
animal production facilities. Also there is a need for more
and higher
quality odor emission data for air dispersion studies and
siting tools.
Project Status
To date this project is still on hold since the
National Air Emission Monitoring Study (NAEMS) has not yet
started. NAEMS
is due to start taking data toward the end of 2006, so hopefully
some odor data and chemical odorants will begin to be collected
starting in 2006 and continuing through 2007 and into 2008.
