Objective
- Enhance commercial vegetable and small fruit
producers’ skills
in soil-water management and irrigation scheduling tools
for a high tunnel drip irrigation system.
- Increase producers
and equipment suppliers on the layout and design requirements
for developing a drip irrigation system
for a 50- to 100-foot long high tunnel production system
Need
or Impact
Many commercial farmer market producers are looking
into the feasibility of introducing a high tunnel production
system into
their vegetable business. Two chapters have been developed
for the Minnesota Commercial High Tunnel Growers Manual. Two
demonstration
tunnels have been set up in central Minnesota to demonstrate
the operations of this system. Several workshops have been
held and are planned for continuation in 2006 in partnership
with
the Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.
Status
Ongoing.
