Manure Management Planning Workshop Series

David Schmidt, Assistant Extension Engineer
Robert Koehler, University of Minnesota Extension Service
Kevin Blanchet, University of Minnesota Extension Service
Mindy Spiehs, University of Minnesota Extension Service

Objective

To provide quality comprehensive training on manure management planning to regulators, technical service providers, farmers, and others involved in manure application planning.

Need or Impact

Proper manure management can benefit both the environment and the financial bottom line of livestock producers through reduced fertilizer inputs and improved crop yields. To take full advantage of the manure requires careful planning for both the long and short term. This series of four workshops provides participants with the necessary research and regulatory framework for putting together these detailed manure management plans. Over 50 individuals participated in one or more of these workshops in 200 (total of 197 paid participants). Materials developed in 2005 will be updated and modified for the 2006 workshop series in the hopes of increasing the number of individuals qualified to write these plans.

Status
