National Center Manure Certification Materials–Odor and Air Quality

Don Jones, Professor and Extension Engineer, Purdue University
Jeff Lorimor, Extension Engineer, Iowa State University
David Schmidt, Assistant Extension Engineer

Objective

Develop materials for a manure certification program related to odor and air quality.

Need or Impact

Farmers and technical service providers need quality information on reducing odor and air emissions from livestock and poultry facilities. Often this information comes through a state-sponsored certification program. Although several sources are available on this topic, this program packaged the material for use in a one-hour educational package complete with written materials, a power point presentation, and review questions. It is anticipated that these materials will be obtained and modified by state organizations working on certification programs for farmers and others dealing in manure handling related businesses.
