Objective
To develop educational materials and programs for dairy producers,
consultants, and processing industry personnel about profitable
dairy housing systems, manure management, and milking system
alternatives.
Need or Impact
Minnesota’s milk production exceeded 8.81 billion pounds
in 2001. Many Minnesota dairy producers continue to upgrade
and modernize their dairy operations to: improve working conditions;
reduce work time to provide more time for family, management,
or rest; improve cow comfort, cow observation, or management;
increase income and profitability; meet environmental regulations;
or improve manure management and nutrient use. Targeted materials
and programs help producers and their advisors evaluate options
for modernizing their dairy operations.
Status
Ongoing.
