Undergraduate Program

Foreword

The undergraduate degree program in biosystems and agricultural engineering is offered through the University’s Institute of Technology (IT) and is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Students enter the biosystems and agricultural engineering program either through the Institute of Technology or through pre-biosystems and agricultural engineering in the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (COAFES). Pre-biosystems and agricultural engineering students transfer to IT prior to their junior year. Approximately 60 students are enrolled in biosystems and agricultural engineering in IT and COAFES.

Curriculum

The biosystems and agricultural engineering program is designed to integrate engineering and biology to create solutions in the areas of bioprocessing and food, environment, natural resources, and machinery systems. The program provides students with a fundamental background for continued professional growth and prepares them to contribute to an ever-changing society.

Students, with the assistance of an advisor, plan a curriculum tailored to their individual interests and select one of three emphases: environment, machinery systems, or bioprocessing and food. Currently the biosystems and agricultural engineering curriculum can be completed in four years by earning a minimum of 128 semester credits.

Engineering internships that supplement classroom instruction by providing practical education and experience with an employer are available. Students may begin their internships after their first year.
