1/4 Scale Tractor Team

For the second year in a row, our undergraduates
participated in the ASAE 1/4 Scale Tractor contest held in
May at East Moline, Illinois. The competition included oral
and written reports and an evaluation of the tractor for
inovation in design and safety. The highlight of the
competition was the tractor pull competition on Sunday, May
21. The team had a new and innovative design that showed a
lot of potential and with refinement should be competitive
next year. The tractor performed reasonably well considering
that there had been little time for practice pulls before
the students left Minnesota for the contest. They placed
16th out of 28 teams overall, and 14th in the performance
competition. In the specialty awards category, our team
received the teamwork award. Their faculty advisor is
Jonathan Chaplin. Staff advisors Brian Hetchler (BAE 1995,
MS 1999) and Todd Hustrulid provided advice and assistance
and were there to help through some of the long nights
leading up to the contest.
