International Activities in Land and Water Resources |
BAE Student ExperiencesWe encourage our students to enhance their education t hrough participation in internships, undergraduate research projects, extracurricular activities, and international experiences. Many of our students gain work experience in the profession through internships. Many are also active in a number of clubs and organizations on campus. Sara Hendrickson, a junior from Milaca, Minnesota, spent part of May in England for a Global Seminar called "Shakespeare in London." The students studied four plays by the bard and attended performances of each. Class trips also took them to Stratford on Avon and Greenwich and a number of museums. One weekend Sara and eight other students took a trip to Paris. Sara says that the whole abroad experience was wonderful, and what she enjoyed most was the feeling of independence and being able to experience different cultures.

The goal for the course was to analyze the sustainability of Moroccan agricultural practices. The students focused on the economic, social, and ecological aspects of the Moroccan agricultural industry. They stayed at the Ecole Nationale d'Agriculture de Meknes and took daily excursions around the region visiting with farmers, observing different farming practices, and just taking in the culture of Morocco. They also visited with government officials and discussed irrigation, desert farming, erosion, hot and wet spells, and other topics of interest. According to Aaron, "Hands on learning is one thing, but being immersed in another culture for a long period of time and interacting with the people in Morocco was incredible!"

If you've ever heard the stirring sounds of the University of Minnesota Marching Band at a football game or parade, you know how exciting it can be. Aaron Peter, (third from right), a junior from Elmore, Minnesota, now in his third year in the band, plays trombone.
