A Department Centennial

An agricultural engineering course was listed for the first time 100 years ago in the 1897-98 University of Minnesota catalog:

Agricultural Engineering. Selecting farms, deciding upon systems of farming, planning farms, subduing new soils, farm buildings, fences, roads, tillage, irrigation, and implements and machinery.

This course was taught in the Department of Agriculture by Professor W. M. Hayes. It wasn't until July 1, 1909, that the Division of Agricultural Engineering was formed.
