Around the University

Name Changes-At the same time that we changed our name to Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, the College of Agriculture and two other departments also underwent a name change. The College of Agriculture has changed its name to College of Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences (COAFES). According to Dean Mike Martin, the 'new name reflects our dramatic growth in recent years, as well as our promising future." In addition, Soil Science is now known as Soil, Water, and Climate, and Agricultural and Applied Economics changed its name to Applied Economics.

New Deans-Michael Martin, formerly Associate Dean of Research for the College of Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences, was appointed Dean effective October 16, 1995. He succeeds Richard Jones, who left in January to become Dean of Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station with the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

H. Ted Davis was appointed Dean of the Institute of Technology effective November 16, 1995. Dr. Davis served as department head of Chemical Engineering and Material Science at the University of Minnesota for 15 years before stepping down in the fall. He replaces Frank Kulacki, who stepped down in June.

ABET Review-In early November, all engineering programs in the Institute of Technology, including our department, underwent a review by the Accrediation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). This review is performed every six years. Our program did well-the preliminary report indicated a positive review for the entire engineering program as well as the individual program in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. ÿ
