The Red Wing Project on Utilization of Electricity in Agriculture
In 1923 a state committee on "The Relation of Electricty
of Agriculture" was organized. The Division of Agricultural
Engineering had been making a study of electric service and
rates for Minnesota farms. The committee was organized to
assist in carrying forward the study on farm electric service
and rates. Subsequently, the department established an Experiment
Station project, No. 17, entitled "The Utilization of Electricity
in Ariculture" and familiarly known as "The Red Wing Project." The
object of the project was "To determine the optimum economic
uses of electricity in agriculture and to study the value
of electricity in improved living conditions on the farm."
